A great way to help Military famlies with expired coupons

Overseas Coupon Program

HELP MILITARY FAMILIES BY SENDING YOUR EXPIRED COUPONS TO HELP THEM

Military commissaries overseas accept manufacturer cents-off coupons for up to six months past their printed expiration dates. That means that coupons that are useless to you can still save oversea military families some money.

http://www.ocpnet.org/

Click on Overseas base list

According to Becky who is in charge of OCPNET says.

The base in Ikego, Japan, currently needs the most help.

USMC Community Services
ATTN: 5PSVC
PSC 561, Box 1867
FPO AP 96310-1867

One Sunday's coupons in a regular envelope uses a single stamp.

Donation size?

There is no minimum. You'll find that those pesky little pieces of paper add up fast! The average Sunday newspaper contains approximately $125 worth of coupons. Even the smallest donation, when combined with the donations of other individuals, will make a difference in the lives of many military families serving our country overseas.

Expired Coupons?

2 Months Max! Yes expired coupons are accepted. We recommend not sending any coupons older than 2 months expired on the date of shipment. They can use them for a couple of months after that but remember that the volunteers at the base must process the coupons once they arrive and get them out to be used. We also need to leave enough time for them to have the families sort through them and find the ones they want for use.

Clip the Coupons

By clipping the coupons, you save the volunteers at the base valuable time. Most organizations are short of needed volunteers. You also save yourself a lot of additional postage since most of the coupon circulars are wasted paper.

What type of Coupons?

Manufacturer’s Coupons are the coupons of choice since they are accepted at any store.

What type of coupons NOT to send?

Do not send Assistance Vouchers, Food Stamps, or any other assistance items. Store coupons, those only good at the store named are useless on a military base overseas. The stores there are the BX/PX or the Commissary. (See below) Do not send restaurant coupons.

Sort the Coupons

Most bases have 2 stores. One is called the “Commissary” which is a grocery store and the other is the PX or BX which is a department store. We therefore ask you to sort the coupons into “food” and “non-food” bundles so that they can more easily be placed in the correct venue once they arrive at the base. If a base wants additional sorting they will let you know.

How to package the coupons?

Use baggies, envelopes, etc., to contain the different categories -- whatever will keep them separated during shipment

(Do not use rubber bands, paper clips, and similar methods of keeping the coupons sorted as they do not work and will come apart in shipping).

Be sure to label the bundles!

What's "Food" and what's not?

Here's my rule of thumb: It's food if it can be eaten by humans, is usually eaten by humans and provides calories. For example, dog & cat food would be "Non-Food," but Ensure or Slim-Fast would be "Food." Vitamins would be non-food.

Tally the coupons

Add up the face value dollar amount for the coupons. Be sure to keep the “food” totals separate from the “non-food” amounts.

If you do not wish to total the coupons you may weigh them. If you choose this method we will give you current average credit. This amount will usually not be as much as if you total them yourself.

"Buy one, get one free" offers usually have a maximum value printed on them. If not, make your best guess.

Buy something, get something by mail offers (e.g., get a stuffed bear for purchasing boxes of Sudafed products) count for zero, but please send them anyway! (These things make nice, inexpensive Christmas gifts for the children.)

"Why total coupons? That's an awful lot of work..."

* So that we may place a value on the work that you do.
* These totals also make you eligible for OCP Awards (Note: awards program currently on hold for evaluation, but remember we could restart it at any time.
* Additionally, this assists OCP HQ in tracking which bases may need to receive more
coupons

SENIORS AND SCHOLARSHIIPS

IF YOU HAVE A SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL,HERE IS SOME INFORMATION ON SCHOLARSHIPS

"The myth is that you have to have an amazing GPA or SAT score to win a merit-based scholarship," says Ben Kaplan, founder of

http://scholarshipcoach.com/ and author of "How to Go to College Almost for Free." "That thinking takes people out of the running."Students who are otherwise gifted can win money from nonacademic scholarships, such as essay contests, community service scholarships and awards based on artistic or athletic skill.

To find these smaller scholarships, which often offer better odds to entrants, tap your local resources.

Tips for applying for scholarships
Multi-apply. "One mistake people make is that they apply for one or two scholarships and stop," says Kaplan, who applied for three dozen scholarships and won around two dozen for his Harvard education. "Once you've applied to one or two, 60 percent of the work has already been done to apply for 10."

Our $1 Million Service Guarantee

LifeLock!

Upon enrollment you are immediately covered by our $1 million service guarantee.

Within 24 hours of our request:

You will receive an email from us stating that fraud alerts have been requested on your behalf. When fraud alerts are established with the major credit bureaus, creditors are required to verify your identity before opening any new lines of credit, issuing new cards or increasing your credit limit.

You will receive an email from us stating that your credit reports have been ordered on your behalf from the major credit bureaus. Your reports will be sent directly to you.

Every time you apply for new credit or someone tries to do something with your credit:

You should receive a phone call from the bank asking if you are actually the person applying for credit in your name. If you are, great. If not, the transaction stops.

On the next business day after our request:

You will be sent an email from us stating that we have processed the request to remove your name from Junk Mail lists. Not only is junk mail annoying, statistics show it’s also one of the most common ways thieves hijack your identity.

You will be sent an email from us saying that we've asked for you to be removed from pre-approved credit offer lists. Like junk mail, by blocking irritating offers, we also block one of the avenues thieves use to steal your identity.

Once we have made the requests:

You will receive letters from the credit bureaus confirming that fraud alerts have been set.

Your credit reports from each of the major bureaus will be sent to you.

You should begin seeing a dramatic decrease in Pre-approved credit card offers and other junk mail. Please note that banks with which you already do business can continue to send you offers unless you tell them specifically that you don't want them anymore.

About every 90 days and every 90 days thereafter:

Unless you tell us to stop, you will receive emails from us stating that we have requested that your fraud alerts be re-set.

You will receive confirmations from the credit bureaus that your fraud alerts have been re-set.

Every 12 months:

You will receive new copies of your credit reports from all credit bureaus.

If your wallet is ever lost or stolen:

We’re here to help! Just give us a call and a WalletLock Specialist will help you contact each affected credit card, bank or document issuing company, cancel those accounts and complete the paperwork and steps necessary to replace your lost documents*, including your credit/debit cards, driver’s license, social security card, insurance cards, checkbook – even travelers checks – at no additional cost. You’re even covered overseas. *Pictures, cash and other monies are excluded. Member is responsible for all applicable fees charged by document issuing companies to replace lost or stolen documents.

If you ever have a question or need help:

Our highly trained specialists are here to assist you 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1 800 LIFELOCK (543-3562).

We alert you to potential threats:

We'll keep an eye out for identity threats with our identity monitoring package:

eRecon™ scours known criminal websites for the illegal selling or trading of your personal information (including your Social Security number, credit card numbers, driver’s license and email address, if provided).

TrueAddress™ notifies you when we detect any new address information associated with your name in address databases nationwide. This helps alert you if a criminal has changed your address to steal mail and obtain your financial information.

BEST WAY NOT TO GET A VIRUSES

Here are the same actions as prepared by an 'Internet Professional' for his corporation. It is an excellent message that ABSOLUTELY applies to ALL persons who send e-mails. Please read the short letter below, even if you're sure you already follow proper procedures. I strongly encourage you to read these guidelines and please try to follow them when you forward e-mails in the future.
------------------------------ ------------------------
HOW TO FORWARD E-MAILS APPROPRIATELY.
Do you really know how to forward e-mails? Some do; most DO NOT.

Do you wonder why you get viruses or junk mail?
Don't you hate it?

Every time you forward an e-mail there is information left over from the people who got the message before you, namely their e-mail addresses and names.

As the messages get forwarded along, the list of addresses builds, and builds, and builds, and all it takes is for some poor sap to get a virus, and his or her computer can send that virus to every e-mail address that has come across his computer. Or, someone can take all of those addresses and sell them or send junk mail to them in the hopes that you will go to the site and they will make five cents for each hit. That's right, all of that inconvenience over five cents.
------------------------------ ------------------------
How do you stop it? Just follow these easy steps:
------------------------------ ------------------------
(1) When you forward an e-mail, DELETE all of the other addresses that appear in the body of the message (at the top). That's right, DELETE them. Highlight them and delete them, backspace them, cut them, whatever it is you know how to do. It only takes a second.

You MUST click the 'Forward' button first and then you will have full editing capabilities against the body and headers of the message. If you don't click on 'Forward' first, you won't be able to edit the message at all.
------------------------------ ------------------------
(2) Whenever you send an e-mail to more than one person, do NOT use the To: or Cc: fields for adding e-mail addresses. Always use the Bcc: (blind carbon copy) field for listing the e-mail addresses.

This way the people you send to will only see their own e-mail address. If you don't see your Bcc: option, click on where it says To: and your address list will appear. Highlight the address and choose
Bcc: and that's it, it's that easy. When you send to Bcc: your message will automatically say 'Undisclosed Recipients' in the 'To:' field of the people who receive it
------------------------------ -------------------- ----
(3) Remove any 'FW:' in the subject line. You can re-name the subject if you wish or even correct spelling.

------------------------------ ------------------------
(4) ALWAYS hit your Forward button from the actual e-mail you are reading. Ever get those e-mails where you have to open 10 pages to read the one page with the information on it? By Forwarding only the actual page you wish someone to view, you eliminate the need for them to open those many, many e-mails just to see what you sent. In many
Instances, the recipient will just delete your message instead of opening all those extra pages. If you, as the sender, wont take the time to delete all those forwarded pages, why should the recipient have to open all of them just to get to the basic document?
------------------------------ -----------------------
(5) Have you ever gotten an e-mail that is a petition? It states a position and asks you to add your name and address and to forward it to 10 or 15 people or your entire address book. The e-mail can be forwarded on and on and can collect thousands of names and email addresses.

A FACT: The completed petition is actually worthless except to a professional spammer because of the wealth of valid names and e-mail addresses contained therein. If you want to support the petition, send it as your own personal letter to the intended recipient. Your position may carry more weight as a personal letter than a laundry list of names and e-mail address on a petition. (Actually, if you think about it, who's supposed to send the petition in to whatever cause it supports? And
Don't believe the ones that say that the e-mail is being traced, it just ain't so!)

------------------------------ ------------------------
(6) 'Send this e-mail to 10 people and you'll see something great run across your screen.DON'T
------------------------------ ------------------------
(7) Before you forward an Amber Alert, or a Virus Alert, or some of the other 'alerts' floating around nowadays, check them out before you forward them. Most of them are junk mail that's been circling the net for YEARS! Just about everything you receive in an e-mail that is in question can be checked out. Just go to
www.truthorfiction.com or www.snopes.com

Reusable Bags

Most people are into the trend of recycling,
reusing, going green, and so on.

It seems that everyone is selling their own recyclable
bags for around 99 cents.
Of course you can make your own and it will be free or almost free.

IKEA has a large bag for just 59 cents
I thing that works perfect for those large items and frozen ones too.

I have not gotten into using recyclable bags in the grocery stores but, I did buy a couple of them.
Believe me I have a lot of cloth bags that I have gotten free
from Companies that I already use.
I use mine for different actives such as
returning library books, holding coupons and weekly flyer's, AWANA items, and Note books that I am working on at that time.

I hope you enjoy the bags as much as me.

Back from California and Navada

I was so exacted to see grocery stores
that I had heard about on blogs.
Winco foods was one that I went to in Reno
and one in Sacramento, their prices
were very reasonable. Raleys and Rite Aid
were there also but, I didn't get a chance to
stop by.

Randalls

I just bought 2- 12 packs of soda
at Randalls
and got 2 - 12 pack for free plus a
free 24 pack of water bottles.

My total was 11.58 plus tax
just a little over 2.31 each
not bad knowing that
I needed to buy sodas

Free Rosetta Stone

Rosetta Stone has been the #1 foreign language curriculum among homeschoolers for a while -- next week they are unleashing a brand new curriculum, and you can WIN the *all new* Rosetta Stone Homeschool Version 3… FOR FREE!

This is a $219 program (and believe me it's worth every penny!) and the winner gets to pick from any of these 14 languages: Spanish (Spain or Latin America), English (American or British), Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Irish, Hebrew, or Russian.
This will also include a headset with microphone, and students will participate in lifelike conversations and actually produce language to advance through the program. Rosetta Stone still incorporates listening, reading and writing as well, in addition to speaking. Many homeschoolers requested grammar and vocabulary exercises, and with Rosetta Stone Homeschool Version 3, they're included! For parents, the new Parent Administrative Tools are integrated into the program and allow parents to easily enroll students in any of 12 predetermined lesson plans, monitor student progress, and view and print reports.

To win this most excellent program -- in the language of your choice -- copy these (blue) paragraphs and post it in (or as) your next blog post -- then to enter the contest, go to the original contest page
HERE:

http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/JenIG/501132

and leave a comment with the link showing where you blogged about it. And please make sure the link works to get back to the original contest page when you post it. And good luck! The winner will be picked randomly on March 26, and will be notified thru the link they left to their blog pg. And if you have more than one blog, you can post them and enter those separately for more chances to win. Yay for free stuff

Healthy Eating

TEAS

  • All true teas contain polyphenols, powerful antioxidants believed to protect against heart disease, certain cancers and stroke.
  • The various levels of fermentation affect teas in different ways. Recent studies have shown drinking green tea might boost metabolism, oolong teas can lower blood sugar, and black teas can promote oral health.
  • Tea contains half the caffeine of coffee.
OILS
  • Olive oil is an excellent source of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats that may lower the bad cholesterol and raise the good cholesterol.
  • It contains Vitamin E and antioxidants.
  • It's an excellent replacement for unhealthy saturated fats like butter.
FRUITS

  • Orange and yellow-hued veggies greens contain carotenoids, a pigment our body converts to vitamin A. Eating lots of these vegetables will help maintain healthy skin and hair, protect against prostate cancer, promote healthy vision and even provide protection from sunburn.
  • Lycopene, the plant chemical responsible for the ruby red of tomatoes and watermelon, is believed to fight cancer and promote heart health.
  • Green vegetables are sky-high in potent anti-cancer compounds like sulforaphane and quercitin.
  • Although garlic and onions they contain diallyl sulfide and saponins, compounds that add distinctive flavors to our recipes and fight cancer and heart disease.

HOMEMADE DAWN DIRECT FOAM

For the past 5 months I have been making my own
Dawn direct foam soap.
Just by adding regular or Dawn dish soap and water to
the top of my old dawn direct foam container,
try several squirts of dish soap. (I prefer 5 squirts)
Watch the foam come out after the first or few squirts.

Chevrolet's Project Driveway Program

Chevrolet's Project Driveway Program! As part of the Project Driveway program

If you live or work in metropolitan New York City; Washington, D.C.; or southern California, you may be eligible to test-drive an Equinox Fuel Cell vehicle, or share your opinions directly with The GM Fuel Cell Team. You must be at least 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen and have a valid driver's license.

Also, because of the current availability of hydrogen fueling stations, only specific geographic areas and driving habits can be considered at this time, although we will keep your information on file in the event that additional opportunities become available in the future. Finally, we are looking for a diverse group of people to participate in the community and drive the Equinox Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles to gather a wide range of insights. Thank you very much for your time and interest.

18 Unexpected Organizer/Clean Home Journal

If you’re like most of us, the last thing you need to do is buy more cartons
and totes for getting organized. Instead, take a look at our list of everyday
items—you probably have most of them around the house already!—which you can use to get organized, save space and find things more easily.

  • 1. Hangers with bars meant for hanging several pairs of pants are great for keeping your winter scarves and shawls visible and wrinkle-free in your coat closet. Use the multiple-skirt hangers with clips to hang your silk scarves. Or loop scarves over the crossbar of a wooden hanger—the result may be attractive enough to display!

  • 2.Tiered hanging wire baskets (intended for storing fruits and vegetables) have another use in your kids’ rooms. Use them to organize toys or stuffed animals or in the closet for socks, belts and underwear.

  • 3. Styrofoam egg cartons work great for storing extra golf balls. Just don’t get confused and put them in the refrigerator!)

  • 4. Cassette tapes may be practically obsolete but their plastic cases are still good. In fact, they’re ideal for keeping headphone cords for your cell phone or MP3 players safe and tangle-free.

  • 5. Old album covers are perfect for storing 8-by-10 photos (like class photos), certificates or your children’s artwork—items you want to keep,
just not keep on display. Slip your more valuable documents and photos between two sheets of archival quality acid-free paper first.

  • 6. Lucite recipe boxes are just the right size for storing and displaying photographs. You can even open the box and choose to spotlight a
favorite photo in the recipe holder.

  • 7. Cardboard wine boxes from your local liquor store or grocery have compartments that are great for storing fragile holiday ornaments. Place
small and extremely delicate ones in Ziploc® Brand Sandwich Bags first to keep them from scratching each other.

  • 8.Canvas shoe bags designed to hang on the back of a closet door are ideal for storing mittens and knit hats in the front hall or mudroom.

  • 9. Plastic hanging shoe bags are also great organizers for your kitchen. Hang one inside your pantry door for all those small kitchen items—from corkscrews and tea strainers to corn-on-the-cob holders and measuring
spoons. They’re just the right size for cake decorating tools too!
  • 10. An acrylic makeup organizer is a great way for the junior Picassos in your household to organize their art supplies. Damp paintbrushes stay neat in dividers meant for lipsticks, and the other small compartments can keep crayons, chalk and watercolor sets nice and neat.

  • 11. Foldout fishing tackle boxes make great jewelry boxes or storage boxes for crafts projects. Art students and makeup artists have relied on them for years for easy accessibility to their brushes and supplies.
  • 12.Silver flatware chests lined with tarnish-resistant fabric are great for organizing and storing your silver jewelry. They’re usually attractive
enough to display and most have dividers that can be used for necklaces,
bracelets, and rings. Look for these handsome boxes at garage sales and
    online auctions.

  • 13. Who doesn’t love to get those perfume and beauty-product samples? But the tiny bottles and containers can create some serious clutter. Minimize the mess by storing them in Ziploc® Brand Containers with Snap 'n Seal Lids in a bathroom closet or drawer. Next time you have guests, pull out some samples to put in a pretty dish
    in your spare bathroom.

  • 14. Empty suitcases are a missed opportunity! Remember, there are some things you just don’t need to unpack, like your travel hairdryer, electric adapters, sleep mask, neck pillow, earplugs and your restocked travel makeup kit.
  • 15. Little metal candy tins make terrific emergency mini-sewing kits. Fill them with needles, spare buttons, hooks-and-eyes, snaps and a few yards of white and black thread wrapped around a small piece of cardboard. Toss one in your handbag and another in your office desk drawer.

  • 16. The plastic containers for mints can be reused to store straight pins. Just be sure to store the pins point-side down
  • .
  • 17. Empty Saran™ Premium Wrap paper rolls are stronger than paper-towel rolls and can take on a second life as portable storage. Ball up empty plastic grocery bags and stuff them into a roll. Then toss a full roll of bags into your glove compartment, beach bag or gym bag so you’ll have a supply of bags whenever you need them.

  • 18.Everyone’s heard of storing shoes in clear plastic boxes with a photo affixed to the outside. But who has time to take and print those photos? Instead, use adhesive nametags and write a description for each box; for example, “brown suede loafers” or “black patent slingbacks.” Label
larger plastic storage boxes as well and be sure to put stickers on two or
three sides so you can read what’s in them no matter where or how
    they’re stored.

It'sTime For Me To Get Organize

I will be looking for ways to make it simple to find things when I need it.
Find easier ways to work smart.
Make a place for everything and put everything in its place.
Do not keep any mail that I do not need and be clutter free.
Not wait until tomorrow but do it today.
Keep a clean and organize house and clean van inside out.
Keep a list of things that need to be done but keep doing so
my list stays short.
Use the alarms, voice mail and calendars from my computer
and cell phone to keep me on track.
